KENNESAW, Ga. – It looks like a tournament, but it's not. It looks like a confrontation between various ASUN opponents. And it is, except the wins and losses don't count on conference records.
It is billed as an ASUN "crossover" weekend. Lipscomb will join host Kennesaw State, Bellarmine, FGCU and Stetson at Bailey Park. With the conference divided into North and South Divisions it is an opportunity for Lipscomb, Bellarmine and Kennesaw State to play against Southern Division foes FGCU and Stetson.
Lipscomb is 11-12 overall, 2-4 in the ASUN.
Weather is expected to be an issue for the games which start Friday night. Lipscomb does not play until Saturday, facing FGCU at 11 a.m. and Stetson at 4 p.m. Sunday the Lady Bisons will play Stetson at 10 a.m. and Kennesaw State at 3.
"It has a different feel to it since it is mid-season," Ryman said. "It gives us a chance to see Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson before the end of the year. The games will still matter. They are going to be extremely competitive."
It is the first games for Lipscomb since beating North Alabama 5-2 March 21. The next seven games were canceled as the Lady BIsons dealt with COVID-19 complications.
Thursday was the first time the entire team had worked out together since the pandemic shut them down. A dozen players were affected with most of them being the result of contact tracing.
"It almost feels like the beginning of the year again where you practice and then boom you play," Ryman said. "This group has continued working hard and putting in extra time.
"This weekend could be a big turning point for us getting everybody back. We've had a layoff. We need to see if we can go back into attack mode. We have to get jump-started pretty quickly because these other teams have played more than us the past couple of weeks."
Amy Vetula continues to set the pace in the lead-off role with a .364 average, 12 runs batted in and 11 stolen bases.
Kamrie Rich is hitting. 351 with 13 RBI.
Presley Leebrick rounds out the .300 hitters with a .316 average.
Olivia Ward is the RBI leader with 16.
Breana Burke is 7-5 in the circle with a 7-5 record and 2.55 earned run average. Maddie Siemer is 2-2 with a 2.44 ERA. Laine Barefoot is 1-2 with a 2.10 ERA.
