Lipscomb Falls to Kennesaw State in Game One of ASUN Quarterfinal Series

KENNESAW, Ga. – No. 3 Lipscomb Baseball dropped a 14-1 decision to No. 2 Kennesaw State Friday night in game one of the ASUN Quarterfinal series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons got off to a good start in the top of the first inning. Robbie Merced singled through the left side in the first at bat of the game.

After stealing second, Merced came around and scored when Malik Williams singled up the middle for a 1-0 Lipscomb lead.

With a run on the board and a runner on base, Lipscomb threatened to do more damage, but three quick outs ended the inning with the Bisons ahead 1-0.

Kennesaw State responded with a three-run first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Bisons' offense stayed sharp in the second inning, once again getting a runner in scoring position with just one out when Tiger Borom notched the third hit of the evening and later stole second.

Borom got himself just 90-feet from home plate by stealing third, but he was stranded there. Kennesaw State tallied three more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-1 lead.

The Owls threatened again in the bottom of the third with runners on second and third with just one out, but starting pitcher, Ike Buxton, pitched his way out of the jam to keep Kennesaw State off the board in the third.

Kennesaw State extended its lead 7-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth. The Owls' lead continued to balloon with five runs in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 14-1 KSU lead after eight complete innings.

The Bisons were unable to score in the top of the ninth for a 14-1 final in favor of the Owls.
