CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sparked by a first half goal from substitute
Haley Williams, the Bisons powered past Miami in a game where the Bisons dominated the possession battle and converted their chances on Thursday night at Cobb Stadium.
Immediately following kickoff, the teams matched each other in style. Each squad pressed high, stretched their opposition, and created dangerous chances on goal. Despite the frantic pace of play, the back lines dealt with the pressure and kept the game locked in a scoreless draw. The Bisons created their best chance of the opening stages of the game when
Molly Grant played a strong low cross to the feet of
Cami Rogers whose shot was saved by the Miami goalkeeper.
Lipscomb struck in the 39
th minute when
Haley Williams received a ball in front of goal from
Skye Baun. Her initial shot was saved by the Miami goalkeeper, but a follow up attempt proved successful and the Bisons took a 1-0 advantage into the half.
The Bisons once again dominated the opening minutes of the second half. Just over a minute in,
Kale'a Perry received a ball outside the 18-yard box from
Allie Dunn and blasted her shot into the back of the net to double the Bisons lead.
In the final 20 minutes the Hurricanes made a push and possessed more of the ball. A rocket of a shot was fired from outside the box destined for the right side of goal but a diving effort from
CJ Graham preserved the clean sheet for the Bisons.
