LIPSCOMB DOWNS FIU, KEEPS THIRD STRAIGHT CLEAN SHEET

Box Score Final Score: Lipscomb 1, FIU 0
Location: Miami, Fla. (FIU Soccer Stadium)
Records: Lipscomb 4-0, FIU (1-3)

MIAMI, Fla. – The Bisons played the role of the aggressor early as they raced out to a blistering start. Led by an early connection between Molly Grant and Kale'a Perry, Lipscomb came away with a 1-0 victory in Miami on Sunday afternoon.

The Bisons again started strong and possessed the ball in the opening minutes. Early runs from Grant, Perry and Rogers foreshadowed a game filled with opportunities for the visitors. It didn't take long for Lipscomb to capitalize on their early chances as Perry carried a ball from Grant into the FIU penalty area. The midfielder fired a shot into the far post and punctuated a fast start for Lipscomb.

As time went on, FIU began to grow into the game. The Panthers began to take possession for themselves and put pressure on the Bisons defense. Lipscomb's defensive anchors Shelby Craft and Katia Hanger made a habit of anticipating FIU's every move and intercepting passes in the center of the field.

Late in the game Lipscomb once again began to ask questions of FIU in transition. Summer Ellmore, Kammy McGee and Craft all created chances that were turned away by FIU goalkeeper Ithaisa Vinoly.

In the 88th minute the Bisons still had a bit of work to do as FIU earned a free kick in the midfield. A high-arching ball was played into the center of the box, but CJ Graham came off her line with authority to deal with the danger and secure a third-straight clean sheet.

  • Kale'a Perry scored her third goal in as many games
  • Molly Grant pitched in her first assist of the season
  • CJ Graham made six saves in the match
  • FIU outshot the Bisons 13-2

NOTABLE:

  • Lipscomb recorded its third straight clean sheet, its longest streak since Nov. 3, 2019
  • Lipscomb improves to 9-0-1 in the state of Florida dating back to the 2016 season

HEAD COACH KEVIN O'BRIEN

"That was a really tough game. FIU is a really good side. We knew it would be a tough game after scouting them and their Thursday night match against North Florida. They have some really nice players, and the new coach is doing a fantastic job. We scored an early goal, we looked really good early on and I don't know whether it was the heat, but we lost a bit of the pep in our step we normally have. We hung in there and got a few chances in transition near the end."

"Every game is an opportunity to learn, and I think we learned a lot. Every week we just try and get incrementally better."
