PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Powered by yet another stunning performance from
Lauren Thompson, the Lipscomb Women's Golf Team rewrote history as they set a new school record for the lowest score through 36 holes in school history while sitting in a tie for fourth place at the GolfWeek Division One Program Challenge.Â
Â
The team consisting of Thompson, Williams, Wu, Smith, and Hinton shot a combined 578 just 10 strokes over par after the first two rounds. The mark breaks a record set in the in the 2019-20 season when the Bisons shot 580 at +20 against par.Â
Â
Thompson led the charge for the Bisons as she tied a school record for the lowest score in a single round of 69 set by Samantha Griffith in 2019-20. Griffith's mark was four strokes below par while Thompsons is -2 against par. Thompson also tied a record-low score of 140 through 36 holes set by
Emily Keeling in 2019-20.
Â
The freshman is on pace to shatter the Lipscomb record for the lowest score recorded over 54 holes. To tie the record on strokes alone, Thompson would need to shoot 77 at the last round of the challenge. To set a new school record both in strokes as well as strokes versus par, Thompson would need to shoot 73 in her final 18 holes.Â
Â
The Bisons also have a chance to break a program record for the lowest team score through 54 holes. The current mark was set by the 2019-20 team at the Lady Red Wolves Classic with a score of 881, a mark that was 17 strokes over par. To best that mark on score alone the Bisons would need to shoot below 303 on the last 18, but to take the top spot on strokes against par, the team must shoot below 291.Â
