Women's Basketball Struggles in Loss at Eastern Kentucky

Location:  Richmond, Ky. (Alumni Coliseum)

THE SHORT STORY: Playing for the third time in five days, Lipscomb struggled offensively as it fell 41-77 to ASUN West foe Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday night at Alumni Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Eastern Kentucky jumped out to an early 18-6 lead through the first five minutes of the game and was able to hold the Bisons to just 13.3% shooting from the floor in the first quarter. After Lipscomb went scoreless in the final five minutes of the first quarter, the Bisons found themselves at a 20-6 deficit after the first frame.

The Bisons continued to struggle in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but Casey Collier broke the seven-minute scoring drought with a pair of free throws.

Bella Vinson was able to spark Lipscomb's offense with a deep triple after the squad went 0-8 from range to start the game.

The shooting was contagious as Shelton drained another three-pointer on Lipscomb's next possession to cut the Eastern Kentucky lead to 10.

Lipscomb's shooting from deep kept the Bisons within striking distance as Blythe Pearson made Lipscomb's third trey of the night with just over four minutes to go in the first half.

The Colonels immediately answered with a three of its own on the other end of the floor and went on a 13-8 run to close out the final minutes of the half and ballooned its lead, 40-22 at halftime.

The Bisons' offensive woes continued into the second half where it was outscored 19-37. Lipscomb's offense struggled to score in the fourth, shooting just 8% for three points as the Bisons ultimately fell 77-41 in an ASUN West battle.

HERD NOTES
  • Shelton and Pearson led the Bisons with nine points each.
  • Maddie Cook finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Lipscomb was outshot 45% to 25% on the night.
