Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball struggles in the second half at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – The road woes continue for the Lipscomb men's basketball team as the Bisons fell 66-59 at Jacksonville in ASUN Conference action Thursday night at Swisher Gymnasium.

The loss dropped the Bisons to 9-13 overall and 2-5 in league play, while also falling to 1-10 in true road games this season. Jacksonville improved to 12-7 and 4-3.

The purple and gold shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the first half and led by four at the break, but struggles from the floor in the final 20 minutes and a mismatch on the boards proved to be too much for the slumbering Bisons.

Greg Jones paced the scoring for Lipscomb with 14 points, but they all came in the first half as he finished 0-for-5 in the second. Will Pruitt, Jacob Ognacevic and KJ Johnson each finished with 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jones found his stroke early and often to help lead the Bisons in the first half. The senior buried the first shot of the game from long range and continued to connect. He then knocked down three more triples and tallied 11 of the team's first 12 points to lead by as many as seven points just five minutes into the game.

In the first half, the Bisons got 14 points from Jones in 13 minutes as he hit 4-of-6 from long distance. The offense was efficient in the first half behind a 58.3-percent clip that saw seven triples fall. Jacksonville dominated the boards 18-10 and turned nine offensive rebounds into 10 second-chance points.

Johnson scored six points in the half, followed by five from Will Pruitt and Jacob Ognacevic. The Bisons did that work despite just a single point from leading scorer Ahsan Asadullah, who picked up a pair of early fouls, forcing the big man to see the floor for just 10 minutes.

The second half was a complete flip of the script.

Pruitt and Ognacevic led the team with five points each and the Bisons struggled mightily from the floor. They hit just 8-of-27 field goals, shot 13 percent from three (2-15) and managed to get to the free throw line just four times.

The Bisons turned the ball over just four times in the second half, but the Dolphins managed to turn those miscues into 10 points. Couple that with six offensive rebounds and seven second-chance points, JU outscored Lipscomb 31-20 after halftime to get the seven-point victory.
