FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Purple and Gold struck out on their final road trip of the regular season this week. Their first stop was a face off with the FGCU Eagles in Fort Myers, Fla. Sophomore Alivia Carapazza recorded her third goal of the season in the contest to bring the Bisons back into a 1-1 tie in the first half, but the Eagles capitalized on a penalty in the final two minutes of play to claim the 2-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bisons earned the first shot of the match just over two minutes into play as Faith Adams broke through FGCU's lines and sent a shot in that went off-target. The Eagles offense showed how sharp they are with a quick goal scored in the seventh minute of play that snuck into the bottom right corner of the net.

Adams and Emanuela Schurch each recorded another shot for Lipscomb before a set of lights losing power on the field caused a brief delay of game right before the 17-minute mark. Kale'a Perry logged her first shot of the match shortly after the lights came on, but it was Alivia Carapazza who found the net for the Bisons to bring things back to even footing.

The Eagles had a dangerous run as the clock neared the 30-minute mark but a well-timed header from Kendall Wade kept FGCU from grabbing another goal. FGCU kept up the offensive pressure and CJ Graham earned her first save of the match to hold the score even going into the break.

Lipscomb's squad came out aggressively in the second frame, out-shooting FGCU four shots to one in the first 15 minutes of play after the half. Perry had a pair of close shots in the second half – one that ricocheted off the right post of the goal and one that flew over the crossbar by only a few inches.

The two squads were locked in a stalemate until the final two minutes of play when FGCU drew a penalty right outside the box and converted for their second goal of the match on the free kick.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Carapazza's goal marks her third of the season, all of which have been scored from outside the 18-yard box
  • Perry tallied her fourth assist of the season in the match, her first assist for a Carapazza goal
  • Perry also led the Bisons in shots against the Eagles with a total of four, two of which landed on target
  • Sophomore netminder CJ Graham notched three saves on the contest, putting her at 53 for the season

HEAD COACH KEVIN O'BRIEN:
"Its really tough to lose a match in the final couple minutes. I thought that the effort and the performance that we put in deserved better, but that's the game. The game of soccer is tough like that sometimes, it can be cruel.

Hats off to Florida Gulf Coast. They're an incredibly talented team and I thought they competed at a really, really high level too, so it was a fantastic soccer game. One that I think in which a draw would have been a fair result, but it doesn't always go that way.

So, we've got to pick our ourselves up by the bootstraps and get to work tomorrow to prepare for a really tough Stetson team on Sunday."

UP NEXT:
The Bisons will travel to DeLand, Fla. to face off with the Stetson Hatter on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 12:00p.m. CT.
