THE SHORT STORY
Despite a career performance by Quincy Clark, Lipscomb Men's Basketball dropped a tightly-contested 86-80 decision to Stetson in overtime to open ASUN play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game started out at a furious pace with both teams coming out with quick energy. Will Pruitt started out the scoring for the Bisons with a triple, but Stetson was shooting at a 75-percent clip and took a 13-9 lead in to the first media timeout.

Out of the timeout, Trae Benham nailed a triple to quickly pull within a point 13-12.

A 7-4 Stetson run over the next four minutes saw the Hatters hold a 20-16 lead with 11:36 left in the first half.

A 9-2 run over the next four minutes gave Lipscomb back a 25-22 lead at the under-eight media timeout with the help of buckets from Matt Schner, Quincy Clark, AJ McGinnis and Ahsan Asadullah

Lipscomb's run continued out of the break to get out to a 27-22 lead with six minutes left in the first frame.

Stetson put a stop to Lipscomb's run with a pair of free throws, but Lipscomb held onto a 29-26 lead with just over four to play in the first half.

A 6-0 Stetson run saw it regain a 31-29 advantage with two minutes to play, but Benham triple saw Lipscomb retake a 32-31 advantage into the break.

Out of the gate in the second half, the two teams traded punches on both ends of the floor and Stetson had a 40-39 lead with 15:24 left in the game.

The Bisons struggled to score and were without points for over three minutes as Stetson pulled out to a 51-46 lead.

McGinnis snapped the scoreless drought with a big triple, pulling the Bisons back within a possession.

Lipscomb tied the game back up at 51 a piece when Quincy Clark forced a steal and converted the bucket on the other end for a tie game with just under nine minutes on the clock.

Lipscomb once again went cold from the floor, but Pruitt snapped a nearly three-minute drought without a field goal with a triple to put Lipscomb back within a possession, 58-56. After a defensive stand, Clark converted on the offensive end to tie things 58-58 with four minutes to play.

Lipscomb continued on a 7-0 run and took a 60-58 lead, forcing a Stetson timeout with 2:49 left in regulation.

The Bisons' defense continued to be strong and Lipscomb got a two-possession separation when Pruitt drove the basket and converted on an and-one opportunity for a 65-60 lead with 1:07 left on the clock.

The Hatters responded with a quick and-one of its own on the other end as Lipscomb held a 65-53 lead with one minute remaining in regulation.

Asadullah made a massive bucket on Lipscomb end to keep the Bisons in front, but Stetson once again answered with a triple for a 67-66 Lipscomb lead.

After inbounding the ball, Clark was quickly fouled and made both shots from the charity stripe. Stetson had the last possession with 24 seconds on the clock and nailed a triple with 0.6 left on the clock. Tied at 69, the game would head to overtime.

Stetson pulled away in the five-minute overtime period and came away with the 86-80 victory.
