Location:  Nashville, Tenn. (Ken Dugan Field)

THE SHORT STORY:  Lipscomb Baseball defeated Akron 12-4 Saturday afternoon at Dugan Field marking head coach Jeff Forehand's 600th career win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Logan Van Treeck got the starting nod for the Bisons and had an efficient first inning, retiring Akron in order with only 11 pitches.

After going scoreless in the bottom of the first, Lipscomb opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. Malik Williams gave the Bisons a base runner when he reached on an error. After a Rudy Maxwell single and John Shields walk, the Bisons had the bases loaded with just one out. Cam McMillan recorded an RBI in his first at-bat in a Lipscomb uniform to give the squad a 1-0 lead after the first two innings.

Akron responded with a pair of runs on as many hits for a 2-1 lead after the top of the third. The Zips' lead was short lived as Lipscomb tied things up in the bottom of the inning. Caleb Ketchup got aboard when he beat the throw on a beautiful bunt for a base knock. After advancing on a sacrifice bunt, Ketchup scored when Mason Lundgrin hit a hard ball up the middle to tie the game 2-2 after the third.

Once again, Akron responded and retook the lead in the top of the fourth with a go-ahead infield single that scored a run for a 3-2 lead.

The Bisons never panicked and responded yet again with a big bottom of the fourth. Maxwell got the inning going with a double and Shields followed it with a 440-foot homer past that cleared the scoreboard in right field for a 4-3 lead. Lipscomb wasn't done as Tiger Borom dropped a triple to center field. Borom scored when Ketchup followed with a double to left field. The final Lipscomb run of the inning came when Ketchup scored on a Houghton single through the left side as the Bisons charged to a 6-3 lead after four innings.

It was a scoreless inning on both sides in the fifth before Matthew Bohnert made his debut on the mound for the Bisons in the top of the sixth. He Kept the Zips off the board to preserve the 6-3 Lipscomb lead.

The Bisons had another big inning in them to pull out to an 11-3 lead after six complete innings. Borom reached on an error for the first base runner. He came around to score when Houghton dropped a ball into left field for a 7-3 lead. Two more hits by Lundgrin and Trace Willhoite juiced the bases for Williams. He took advantage and blasted a home run to right field for a grand slam, giving Lipscomb an 11-3 lead.

After another scoreless inning on the hill from Bohnert, Lipscomb tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh when Lundgrin notched his second RBI of the game for a 12-3 Bisons advantage.

After being shut out for three innings, the Zips got back on the board in the top of the eighth with a run to make it a 12-4 game heading into the bottom of the eighth.

Will Newell threw the final inning for the Bisons and closed things out for a 12-4 victory.
