Women’s Tennis Splits Weekend Matches Against Bruins and Blazers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb's women's tennis program lined up two strong opponents for the weekend as they faced familiar foe Belmont on Saturday and UAB at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center on Sunday. The Bisons took down Belmont 4-3 on the Bruins' home courts and fell 2-5 to the Blazers.

Saturday morning saw the Bisons heading up Granny White to take on the Belmont Bruins on their home courts. The Bisons emerged with a 4-3 win to claim their ninth straight victory over the Bruins.

Kate Popova and Anja Trbeznik partnered at the No. 1 position for Lipscomb in doubles play, earning a 6-4 victory over their Belmont opponents. Despite their win, Belmont took the doubles point with a 7-6 win on court two over Maddox Bandy and Sasha Dobranos and a 6-2 win on three over Emma Zakordoniec and Eleanor Chapman.

Things began looking up for the Bisons in singles play as Dobranos claimed a two-set triumph on the top court (6-3, 6-4), followed by a 7-5, 6-2 win from Popova on court two to pull the Bisons into the lead.

Zakordoniec took the third position for the Bisons and earned the Bisons a third point when her opponent retired. Trbeznik held down the fourth court for the Bisons and fell to her Belmont foe 3-6, 5-7.

Liza Diachenko put up a battle of a match at the No. 5 position and took her opponent to three sets before the Bruins claimed the point (6-4, 4-6, 5-10). Senior Maddox Bandy earned the clinch point for the Bisons on court 6 in a decisive two-set victory, going 6-4, 6-4 to secure Lipscomb's win.
 
Lipscomb 2, UAB 5

The Bisons returned to their home turf on Sunday as they took on the UAB Blazers at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center for their second match of the weekend.

Doubles duo Maddox Bandy and Sasha Dobranos kicked things off well for Lipscomb with a 6-1 victory against their Blazer opponents.

The doubles point ultimately went to UAB as they Blazers took two tight matches from the Bisons on courts three and one, going 6-5 over Emma Zakordoniec and Eleanor Chapman on three and 7-6 over Kate Popova and Anja Trbeznik at the No. 1 position.

The Bisons stumbled in singles play, dropping points on courts five, three, and four to solidify UAB's victory. Determined to put Lipscomb on the board, Dobranos battled for the Bisons on court one, taking down her foe in a 7-5 (7-5), 6-4 win.

In a tight back-and-forth, Kate Popova traded sets with her opponent before taking the No. 2 point for the Bisons in a three-set thriller (7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 10-4). Maddox bandy competed on court six for the Bisons but was unable to capitalize on the momentum and fell to her Blazer challenger in two sets (1-6, 6-7 (5-7)), finalizing UAB's 5-2 win.
