THE SHORT STORY: Lipscomb jumped out to an early lead and never looked back against Bradley as the Bisons' pitching staff threw a combined shutout for the first time this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kaleb Kantola took over the mound and was immediately efficient for the Bisons, striking out two in a three up, three down inning to set the tone.
Lipscomb took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when
Maddux Houghton led off with a walk. After stealing a base and advancing on a fly ball, Houghton scored on a wild pitch to take the lead.
Kantola continued rolling in the top of the second, retiring Bradley in order and added another two punch outs.
Lipscomb charged out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The first two runs of the inning came on wild pitches for a 3-0 lead. Houghton and
Rudy Maxwell both batted a runner in on doubles and
Malik Williams notched an RBI on a fielder's choice for the 6-0 lead.
Keeping with the theme, Kantola struck out the side in the top of the third to keep Lipscomb comfortably ahead.
The Bisons added more in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of a Bradley error.
Caleb Ketchup singled to third and eventually scored on a fielding error for a 7-0 lead. With runners on the corners and two outs,
Malik Williams delivered a triple to deep center field to score both runners and give Lipscomb a 9-0 advantage. The Bisons loaded the bases once again after two more walks for Bertolani who singled through the left side for two more runs and an 11-0 advantage after three complete innings.
Bradley was finally able to get some offense going in the top of the fourth with a leadoff hit and a couple of walks, but Kantola dug deep and got the final man he faced in the inning swinging to get out of the inning unscathed.
Lipscomb tacked on three more in the bottom of the fourth after two free passes put runners on the corners with two outs for Williams. He continued his big slugging night with his third home run of the season past the left field wall to put the Bisons ahead 14-0.
Kantola continued to pitch well, keeping the shutout through the fifth inning before
Collin Witzke would replace him on the mound in the top of the sixth and pitch another shutout inning.
Lipscomb was held off in the sixth and
Gavin Grubbs notched the final three outs on the hill for the Bisons as they defeated Bradley 14-0 in seven innings.
