THE SHORT STORY: Playing for the second time in three days, Lipscomb had a hard time slowing down the No. 20 team in the country as Florida Gulf Coast came to Nashville and defeated the Bisons 73-55 in ASUN Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
FGCU opened the game with a 9-2 lead a little more than three minutes into the action before the Bisons got rolling on the offensive end. After a 1-for-6 start, Lipscomb connected on six of its next eight shot attempts.
Sydney Shelton converted a layup at the 5:57 mark, then
Casey Collier followed up with the team's first 3-pointer on the next trip down the floor. The next possession,
Maddie Cook took the ball and spun her way into the lane before pulling up from six feet and banking a shot off the glass.
Jordan Peete got in on the action and pulled the Bisons to within 13-12 after knocking down her first long ball of the afternoon, resulting in the fourth-straight make for the purple and gold.
After another triple from Shelton and a jumper from Cook, the Bisons went to the end of the quarter down 23-17. The Bisons outshot FGCU 47% to 44% in the frame.
Whatever momentum Lipscomb had at the end of the first period, it quickly evaporated in the second as the offense went ice cold. The Bisons made just 1-of-11 field goals at one point and finished the quarter 3-of-15, while FGCU made 60 percent of its shots to take a 41-26 lead into the half.
Lipscomb cut its deficit to 12 points early in the third period after a 5-0 run from Vinson that included her second trey of the afternoon. The Eagles responded with a 12-2 run of their own to put the Bisons into their largest deficit of the game at 55-33.
The Bisons shot 54% in the fourth quarter after draining 7-of-13, but it wasn't enough as FGCU walked out of Allen with a 73-55 victory.
HERD NOTES
