Women’s Tennis Topples UNA Lions in 4-3 Triumph

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb's women's tennis program earned their first conference win of the season Sunday against North Alabama. The Bisons earned their victory with four singles points against the Lions.
 
The first point of the match went to North Alabama as the Lions took wins on courts two and three to earn the doubles point. Maddox Bandy and Sasha Dobranos partnered on court two (2-6) while Eleanor Chapman and Perri Howard competed on court three for the Bisons (3-6).
 
Kate Popova and Anja Trbeznik competed in the top spot for the Bisons and held a 5-4 lead at the time the Lions took the doubles spot.
 
The Bisons turned up the heat in singles play, starting with a two-set win on court one from sophomore Sasha Dobranos (6-0, 6-1). North Alabama pulled ahead 2-1 with a win over Anja Trbeznik on court four, going 6-1, 6-3 against the junior.
 
Eleanor Chapman pulled the Bisons back to a tie as she notched a point for Lipscomb in a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 6 position. Rolling with the momentum, Maddox Bandy gave the Bisons the lead for the first time in the match as she went 6-2, 6-1 on court five.
 
The Lions fought back with a win at the No. 2 position over graduate student Kate Popova as their 6-3, 6-4 brought the teams back to a tie.
 
The final point of the match was decided on court three where junior Emma Zakordoniec posted a two-set victory to clinch the match for the Bisons, going 7-6 (7-6), 6-2 to decide the match.

The Bisons hit the road for their next match as they head to Louisville, Ky. to face the Bellarmine Knights on Friday, March 25th. The two squads will face off at 10:00am CST.
