Men’s Tennis Bested by Knights, Flames On the Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky./ LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lipscomb's men's tennis program hit the road this weekend for their first conference road trip. The Bisons struggled on the road and fell 2-5 to both the Bellarmine Knights and the Liberty Flames.

The Bisons began their Friday match against the Knights by taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Pedro Uribe and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto competed at the top spot for Lipscomb and picked up a 6-1 win. Sam Fischer and Alex Mesquida competed together on court two where they helped secure the doubles point with a 7-5 win.
 
The Knights dominated in singles play, taking victories on every court. Two Bisons made their opponents work for their wins and took their foes to three sets.
 
On court four Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto bounced back after a loss in the first set before falling in the tiebreaker (5-7, 6-2, 4-6). Sam Fischer competed at the No. 5 position and was locked in a tight battle with his competitor before ultimately falling 4-6, 6-3, 9-11.

Sunday's match in Lynchburg saw the Bisons take the doubles point from the Flames.
 
Sam Fischer and Alex Mesquida kicked things off with a 6-2 win on court two before Liberty struck back with a 2-6 defeat of David Skrabut and Jake Penny on court three. Pedro Uribe and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto clinched the double point for Lipscomb with their 6-4 triumph at the No. 1 position.
 
The Flames knocked down five straight points in singles play to clinch the match as they took points on courts two, five, one, three, and four. Jake Penny earned the Bisons' second point of the match on court six in a three-set thriller to end the match (2-6, 6-2, 6-4).

The Bisons will be back at home on Friday, April 1 to face off with the Stetson Hatters at 2:00pm CST at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on Lipscomb's campus.
