Softball drops series finale with North Alabama

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb softball dropped the rubber game on Sunday as the North Alabama Lions took an 8-1 victory at Draper Diamond.

UNA (27-11, 6-6 ASUN) pounded out 11 hits and put up runs in five of the seven innings.

The Lions scored one in the second, two in the fourth, and another in the fifth before a 3-run homer in the sixth put the game out of reach. UNA then added another home run in the seventh to make it 8-0.

The Bisons only managed five base hits on the day. Elise Shewmaker scored the lone purple and gold run in the bottom of the seventh when she blasted a leadoff home run to left center, her first deep shot of the season.

Makayla Veneziale (2-5) got the start and pitched 3.0 innings. She allowed three runs on seven hits, including four extra-base knocks.

Amy Vetula led the Bisons at the dish with another 2-hit day, including her fourth double of the season. Shemaker also smacked a pair of hits.

Lipscomb is back in action Wednesday at 5 p.m. when the Bisons make the short trip over to E.S. Rose Park to take on the Belmont Bruins.
