Bisons Fall to Eagles, Owls on the Road

FORT MYERS, Fla./KENNESAW, Ga. – Lipscomb's women's tennis team headed out for two conference matchups this weekend. The Bisons first faced off with the FGCU Eagles on Friday (1-6) before clashing with the Kennesaw State Owls on Sunday (2-5).

FGCU 6, Lipscomb 1

The Bisons' first match opened with the doubles point going to the Eagles from wins on courts three and one. Perri Howard and Liza Diachenko occupied the No. 3 position where they fell 1-6 to their foes.

Kate Popova and Sasha Dobranos partnered at the top spot but were defeated 2-6 to secure the doubles point. Court two saw Anja Trbeznik and Maddox Bandy locked in a tight battle with their competitors, but their match was stalled in a 4-4 draw when the doubles point was decided.

The Eagles dominated in singles play, but the Bisons pushed back hard to make their opponents earn their victories.

Maddox Bandy took her opponent to three sets before her ultimate defeat, culminating in a nail-biting third-set tiebreaker (5-7, 6-1, 0-1(4-10)).

Junior Emma Zakordoniec competed at the No. 3 position for the Bisons and held her adversary to tight scored in their two-set match, going 4-6, 6-7(3-7) as the fifth match to finish.

The Bisons' point for the match came from senior Eleanor Chapman's three-set victory on court six where she went 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 to triumph over her Eagles foe.

Kennesaw State 5, Lipscomb 2

The squad then headed to Kennesaw Ga. to compete with the Kennesaw State Owls on Sunday. The Owls took the first point of the match as they claimed wins on courts one and three.

However, her recent doubles partner of Sasha Dobranos struck back with a 6-3,6-1 win of her own on court two.
