Softball blanked in midweek at Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Lipscomb softball went on the road Tuesday night for its final midweek contest of the season. The Bisons were held to just two hits and fell 5-0 to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in Bowling Green.

The Bisons (16-26) dropped their third straight game and fifth in the last six. WKU improved to 28-8 overall and 17-1 at home this season.

Not a whole lot went right for the purple and gold against the Hilltoppers, only getting two runners on base all game.

The Bisons got a two-out single from Kyndall Crawford in the first inning and a leadoff single from Kaitlyn Woodside in the sixth, but despite their best scoring chance of the game, the next three batters went down in order on strikes to end any kind of rally.

Emily Yakubowksi got the nod in the circle for Lipscomb. She fell to 2-6 on the year after 3.2 innings of work. She allowed four earned runs on six hits, while striking out six and walking three.

Laine Barefoot worked the final 2.1 frames, and did not give up a hit. She walked one and punched out another.

WKU scored its first two runs in the bottom of the first on a one-out double down the line in left by Taylor Sanders. The Toppers extended their lead to 3-0 in the third when Sanders added a RBI-single to right. Taylor Davis, who advanced to third on
Sanders' single, stole home on a double-steal to make it 4-0.

The Hilltoppers scored their final run in the fourth with two outs when a Lipscomb error kept the frame alive.

All six WKU hits and five runs came from the top four in the lineup.

Shelby Nunn (15-5) got the win for WKU after tossing 4.0 innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts. Kate Gardner picked up her second save of the season behind 3.0 innings of one-hit ball in relief. She struck out five batters.
