Softball falls in Sunday finale at Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – Lipscomb softball dropped the rubber game on Sunday against ASUN west division leader Central Arkansas 12-2 in six innings.

The win improved UCA to 28-16 overall and 12-6 in league play, while the Bisons fell to 17-28 and 7-11.

With a scoreless game going into the third inning, the Sugar Bears pushed across three runs on four hits to take the game's first lead.

The Bisons responded with a run in the top of the fourth after Amy Vetula got things started with a leadoff single to short. After advancing to third on back-to-back groundouts, Katelyn Belding turned on a pitch and sent it into left field to knock in Vetula and cut the deficit to 3-1.
 
 
That score didn't last long however as the Sugar Bears scored three more times in the bottom half to go up 6-1.

In the top of the fifth, Elise Shewmaker knocked in Kelly Paulson from second with a single up the middle, making it 6-2. That would be all the Bisons would get.
 
 
Central Arkansas scored two in the fifth and then hit a grand slam in the sixth that put them up 12-2, forcing a run-rule to be called.

Emily Yakubowski (2-7) suffered the defeat after working 2.2 innings with three runs allowed on four hits.

Shewmaker, Vetula and Belding all recorded two base hits each to lead the team.
 
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb returns home for the final two weekends of the regular season. They will host Eastern Kentucky next weekend, April 30-May1.
