THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb Baseball used consistent offense to down Tennessee Tech 10-1 Tuesday night at Dugan Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons got on the board early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead. Tennessee Tech nearly got out of the inning, but Mason Lundgrin connected on a two-out home run to right field. Malik Williams stepped up and went long on the very next pitch for the early lead.

Lipscomb didn't let up and scored again in the bottom of the second when John Shields put a one-out triple to right-center field. He scored when Ethan Stamps delivered an RBI ground ball for a 3-0 lead after two innings. Another pair of runs for the Bisons in the bottom of the fourth when Williams and Rudy Maxwell started off the inning with back-to-back knocks. Both came around to score in the inning on a ground ball and a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead after four complete innings.

The Golden Eagles tightened things up in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, making it a 5-2 ballgame. Shields responded with a home run in the bottom of the inning over the right field fence. His fourth home run of the year gave Lipscomb a 6-2 lead.

TTU threatened in the top of the seventh with a pair of runners in scoring position, but Matthew Maldonado got three-straight punch outs to strand both runners to keep the 6-2 lead.

Lipscomb scored its seventh run of the night in the bottom of the seventh after Caleb Ketchup led off with a double down the left field line. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Lundgrin delivered a sacrifice fly to left field for a 7-2 lead. The Bisons' offense stayed hot and scored again in the bottom of the eighth after Shields worked a walk and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. His heads-up base running continued, and he scored on a wild pitch for an 8-2 advantage. After another walk and a Maddux Houghton single up the middle, Lundgrin stepped up and ripped his third extra-base hit of the night with a double to right field to plate two more for a 10-2 lead heading into the top of the ninth.
