Coming off his 600
th win, Coach Forehand has proven his successful on the field. While we know his prowess as a baseball coach, anyone who knows Coach, or who has ever played for Coach Forehand would tell you the impact he has made in their lives goes infinitely beyond the game. In order to begin to quantify this impact, two simple questions were asked to several of Coach Forehand's former players and their responses are found below. It is a great honor to learn from Coach Forehand how to live such an impactful life.
-HOW HAS PLAYING FOR COACH FOREHAND IMPACTED YOU?-
Blake Bratcher 2008: In life, there are people that come along and help mold you and direct your path. Coach Forehand did that for me and so many other players. He is much more than a baseball coach and his impact on the baseball field pales in comparison to the impact he has made in so many of our personal lives. We are better men, fathers, and husbands because of our time spent with him. I consider it one of the great blessings of my life to have played for Coach Forehand and to be associated with a man of his caliber.
Allan Hooker 2018: Coach Forehand has impacted my life in multiple ways. He always treated everyone the same no matter if you're the star player or the managers. He is someone who would give you the shirt off his back. I remember each text or speech he would always end it with," love ya."
Dylan Bierman 2022: Coming to a division I program from a junior college makes you hesitant to believe any promises or ideas of how you might be treated as a person and player. But coming to Lipscomb and playing for Coach Forehand has been evidence that sometimes reality can be better than you imagined when you have people who lay their life down to serve and coach you. Playing for Coach Forehand has impacted me in countless ways as I have taken so many lessons from him. Some of the ways he has impacted me include: showing up everyday with a purpose to be great every single day, knowing who you are and what you stand for (this is us), always looking to refresh others, making your culture contribution daily, and living life full speed ahead without questioning every move (we are the ones playing). I have taken these lessons along with many more, and am so thankful for the impact they have had on me.
Josh Lee 2015: Coach Forehand demonstrated what a servant leader is supposed to look like. He saw you as a person first, then as one of his players. The investment he made in his players' personal lives is something I quickly noticed and shape the way I coach and teach today.
Haddon Adams 2020: My life took a turn for the better when I started playing for Coach Forehand. Something I learned about faith through playing for Coach Forehand is that you do not have to compromise who you are as a man of God to find success in our world. He has stayed true to who he is, and has found success through his entire coaching career. He has also opened my eyes to what success really looks like. While he has been a great coach on the field, what is more impressive is the amount of past players that speak so highly of the selfless man that Forehand was and still is. Coach Forehand walks the walk.
JT Caver 2021: Coach Forehand helped turn me from a boy to a man showing me through his actions what it meant to wake up everyday and serve someone else. Watching him approach everyday life has changed my perspective on life and God has used Coach Forehand to show me how we as men are suppose to walk this earth.
-WHAT IS THE BIGGEST TAKE-AWAY FROM COACH THAT YOU WILL HOLD ONTO FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?-
Jeff Passantino 2017: The Biggest takeaway I will hold onto for the rest of my life is how he treated me after my Father passed away. Within just days after my Dad passed, Coach Forehand was at my house in Florida. He wasn't there to be my Head Coach, an educator, or a person that felt like they had to be there, he was there to be there for me and my Family. He was there because he wanted to be. He would tell all of us on the team that he loved us all the time, but being young and naive, I never really appreciated it when he would tell us, it almost just became normal. But when I saw him at my front door, and when he was talking to me and my family during that week, I saw all the love he was giving and we felt that. All the outpouring of love helped all of our hearts heal, and I am so appreciative still to this day, that I was able to play for a Coach that was a part of helping us heal as a family. When Coach says he loves you, he means it, and for that, I will always be grateful
Brian Moore 2020: My biggest take-away from Skip, that I will hold onto for the rest of my life is that the most important aspect of life is relationships. You need to put in the energy to develop those relationships as best you can because those are what truly matter at the end of the day. Those are what will get you and a team through the adversity that will always come. Day 1 he preached relationships and investing in others, and he still does it to this day!
Zeke Dodson 2019: The biggest take-away that I'll hold on to for the rest of my life is that every day is a gift and a blessing. If you know Skip, you know that he will always have a smile on his face and he's always going to do what he can to help others. Looking back on my years playing baseball at Lipscomb, it's truly amazing to see how much of a selfless person Skip is and how much he truly cares. He always made it a point to bring every lesson that we learned on the field back to life and how it all pertains to the same thing. To this day I will still get a phone call from Skip every now and then and its not him asking for donations or favors, it's just him calling to check in on me and see how I'm doing. When I get asked about how it was to play for Skip, I always say that he was the best coach I ever played for, but he is an even better man. He showed us what it looked like to be a brother, a devoted husband and father, but most importantly he showed us what it looked like to be a true follower of Christ.
Will Blalock 2015: Coach Forehand exemplifies servant leadership. There was nothing ever asked of us, as his players, that he wasn't willing to do as well. He cared for each individual that was under his care, and was willing to do anything to help them out. He desires to serve all that surround him. His actions always point to Christ. Coach Forehand is truly a role model of mine, and I wish that I could model such an extraordinary character as well as he does.
Lee Solomon 2018: The biggest lesson I learned from Coach Forehand is simple: Be kind. Funny enough, though I've sat through more Forehand speeches than I can count, this is not advice he has ever spoken to me personally. Rather, this was a daily lesson I received just from watching him interact with his family, friends, colleagues, and most critically, with strangers. Treating people with respect and making them feel loved is not difficult. Honestly, it takes little effort. Of the many things I took away from my time with the Lipscomb Baseball program, I will always remember Coach Forehand's genuine kindness towards everyone he crosses paths with.
Maddux Houghton 2022: The importance and value of relationships is what I will forever take away from my time playing for Coach Forehand. Playing college baseball is awesome, but the people we do it with is what makes it so special. The bonds formed, laughs shared, and memories made are what make experiences more meaningful. Cherishing relationships allows us to live in the present moment and deeply enjoy what we are doing. It also allows us to be vulnerable with each other and love one another. Coach Forehand built the Lipscomb baseball program on this principle, and it no doubt my biggest takeaway from him.
