Women's Soccer falls at Texas in season opener

AUSTIN, Texas – The Lipscomb women's soccer team opened up its season Thursday night under the lights against one of the top teams in the country in Texas. The Bisons surrendered a pair of goals in the first half on the way to the Lonhorns earning a 5-0 victory in Austin.

Texas started with a blistering pace and took advantage just seven minutes into the match with a header off a corner kick. Twenty minutes later, the Longhorns doubled their lead after the ball squirted out of a scrum in the box and across the goal line.

UT scored three more times in the second half to secure the season-opening win.

The Bisons had their best opportunity to score early around the 55-minute mark when Emily Patti had a rocket saved by a header on the line, Kale'a Perry banged one off the left post and Emanuela Schurch put one just over the bar from 18 yards out.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Faith Adams led the Bisons with three shot attempts, while Perry was credited with two.
  • CJ Graham made five saves in the match.
  • The last time Lipscomb allowed five goals in a match, it came November 8, 2015 against FGCU in the ASUN Final in Fort Myers.
  • UT's Lexi Missimo led all players with eight shots, while Liz Warden added two scores.

HEAD COACH KEVIN O'BRIEN:

"It was a tough one tonight for the Bisons, we haven't had a loss like this in some time. I thought the girls competed well and played with a lot of heart. We moved the ball well at times, but Texas deserves the result. I'm a little disappointed we conceded three goals on set pieces, we have to go up and compete harder on those fifty-fifty balls.

"Every game is an opportunity to learn and that's what we are going to do. We are going to rebound quickly and prepare for our home opener on Sunday. I love this team and I really believe we have a team that is going to be super competitive in our league."
