Women's soccer blasts Tennessee Tech in home opener

Final Score: Lipscomb 4, Tennessee Tech 0
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Lipscomb Soccer Complex)
Records: Lipscomb 1-1-0, Tennessee Tech 0-2-0

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women's soccer team was ready to get back home and get the taste out of their mouth from the Texas roadtrip. They had to wait until the final 45 minutes, but the Bisons exploded for four goals after halftime en route to a 4-0 victory Sunday night against in-state rival Tennessee Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

With the score nil at halftime, Lipscomb came out with new life and new energy to start the second half. The Bisons tilted the field toward the Tech goal and Kelli Beiler paid it off in the 54th minute. Nearly one year to the day since she last took the pitch (364 days), Beiler pushed home a ball just inside the right post and out of the reach of the Tech keeper to put Lipscomb up 1-0.

Beiler's goal ignited the offense as Alivia Carapazza doubled the Bisons lead in the 62nd minute after booming a 45-yard set piece over the defense. The ball bounced inside the goal box and past the keeper to make it 2-0.

Just four minutes later, Kale'a Perry darted a laser from nearly 30 yards at the top of the box on a free kick that powered through the defenders and off the hands of the diving keeper to extend Lipscomb's advantage to 3-0.

Lipscomb added the exclamation point in the 81st tick when Grace Oliver curled home a one-timer from just above the corner of the 18-yard box to secure the 4-0 home-opening win.

  • Sydney Jones earned her first-career start in net and came away with four saves.
  • Beiler's goal was her first since April 3, 2021 in the semifinals of the ASUN Championship. She returned to action Sunday for the first time since August 22, 2021 when she suffered a season-ending injury.
  • Carapazza's tally was the second of her career and first since March 19, 2021 against Liberty. She led the team with three points after assisting on Beiler's score.
  • Perry notched her first goal of the season and the fourth of her Bison career.
  • Oliver's goal was just the second of her career, and the first since March 31, 2021.
  • Lipscomb has won three straight matches against TTU. The last loss came in 2011.

HEAD COACH KEVIN O'BRIEN:

"It was a great night tonight coming off a really tough loss. I am proud of the way the girls applied themselves. From minute one, the soccer was really, really good. We challenged our girls to be hungry in the box and be fully committed. They answered that call.

Kelli has been out for a while, so to get her back was great, but her goal was gritty and scrappy in the box. So, for me that was phenomenal. The other three goals, unbelievable. They were some incredible strikes.
We are off tomorrow with the first day of school, then we will get ready to play a really talented team on Thursday."
