THE SHORT STORY
Behind a team-high 24 points from Jacob Ognacevic and 13 points from AJ McGinnis and Will Pruitt, Lipscomb cruised to an 86-62 over North Alabama for its first ASUN victory of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
North Alabama scored the first bucket of the night on the first possession and held Lipscomb scoreless on its first trip down the floor, but Lipscomb buckled down with a 7-0 run of its own for an early 7-2 lead.
Both squads continued to shoot well and the game was tied at nine all at the first media timeout.
Turnovers plagued the Bisons over the next several possessions with four in the next five minutes. UNA capitalized on the Lipscomb mistakes and held a 15-11 lead with 11:03 left in the first half.
Tommy Murr broke a Bisons scoring drought of nearly four minutes with a beautiful drive to the basket, cutting the UNA lead to a pair.
Just before the under-eight media timeout, AJ McGinnis drained a long triple to regain a 19-18 Lipscomb lead.
The squads kept pace over the next four minutes, but the Bisons still held a narrow 23-22 lead with 3:29 to go in the first half.
Before the half, Lipscomb mounted a 12-2 run over 5:09 to take a 31-24 lead into the halftime locker room.
Lipscomb came out of the break firing and used a 11-4 run to get out to a double-digit 42-28 lead, forcing a UNA timeout.
The Bisons got out to as much as a 16-point lead, but started to claw back into the game, shaving the Bisons lead 53-43 with 11:14 left in the second frame.
Lipscomb responded with a 10-0 run out of the timeout and took a 20-point, 63-43 advantage with just under nine to play, with the help of a pair of triples from McGinnis.
Lipscomb caught fire on the offensive end and were shooting nearly 64-percent from the floor and nearly 50-percent from behind the arc and used the momentum to take its largest lead, 29-points, with 3:32 left in the second frame.
The Bisons were able to close out an 86-62 victory in front of its home crowd for its first ASUN victory of the season.
