SCORING SUMMARY
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was evenly matched early with both sides having early chances. In the 6' minute, FGCU caused confusion for the Lipscomb back line and had an open look at goal, but the shot was blocked by a Lipscomb defender to keep things scoreless.
In the 14' minute, on the other side Lipscomb had a couple of good chances. Spicer put a hard shot on frame that was saved by an FGCU defender but rebounded to the feet of Alonefti. His shot, however, skirted just wide of frame as the stalemate remained.
Lipscomb keeper
Juan Carlos Rodriguez had three quality saves in the 23' minute keeping the Eagles off the board before the Bisons were able to clear the ball out of danger.
Just before the half, Spicer had another dangerous look, but his shot was saved by a diving FGCU keeper as the game went to halftime scoreless.
FGCU came out of the halftime break with a lot of energy, but Rodriguez made another couple of good saves to keep the score knotted at zero.
Coming on as substitutes in the second half,
Malachi Jones and Spicer elevated the Lipscomb energy and the Bisons had a couple of good attacks, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The breakthrough came from Lipscomb in the 88' minute when Smith flew up the left side with the ball, dribbling through a host of Eagles. He dumped the ball to Spicer who sent a pass to a waiting Alonefti at the top of the box. Alonefti blasted a right-footed shot to the upper-right corner of the net for a 1-0 Lipscomb lead.
The Bisons defense held strong for the final two minutes of the match to see out the 1-0 victory. With other results in the ASUN on Saturday night, the Bisons secured the outright ASUN Regular Season Title with tonight's win.
