Volleyball Takes Care of Owls for 8th ASUN Win

Bisons Improve to 8-1 at home

NASHVILLE -  Lipscomb Volleyball returned to Allen Arena after consecutive road games with the first of two straight home matches Friday night. LUV went to battle with Kennesaw State (11-9, 4-5 ASUN) and defeated the Owls 3-1 with set scores of (25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21). With the victory, the Bisons improved to 13-6, 8-1 in ASUN competition.

Courtney Jones led the way with 16 kills on the night. Addi Pelham had a season-high 14 kills in the win while hitting .650 against the Owls. Sophia Hudepohl ended with a double-double, including 45 assists and 16 digs to lead the team. Delaney Smith added 11 digs, seven assists, and seven service aces. As a unit, the Bisons hit .236 to go along with ten aces and seven blocks.

Lipscomb won a close opening set 25-23, scoring the last two points after the Owls evened the score at 23 each. There were 12 lead changes in the set and two ties in the last two. Addi Pelham carried the torch in the first frame with six kills as the Bisons hit .341 as a unit.

The Bisons won the second set decisively despite a not-as-productive showing offensively. Kennesaw State had nine attack errors in the frame, while the Bisons were efficient with their swing. Lipscomb had no error and nine kills which made a big difference.

Kennesaw State escaped the sweep, edging the Bisons in the third frame 25-23. LUV had a handful of attack errors that cost them and kept the Owls alive. Lipscomb got back on track in the final set, winning 25-21. The Bisons opened the frame up 6-0, which helped them keep a manageable lead despite a late rally from the Owls.

With the win, Lipscomb remains in sole possession of second place and a game back of first in the ASUN standings, with seven more conference battles left before the postseason play starts. The Bisons have also improved to 8-1 in matches at Allen Arena this season.
