Last-Minute Goal Secures Bisons’ Victory Over Hatters

Final Score: Lipscomb 1, Stetson 0
Location: DeLand, Fla. (Athletic Training Center)

DeLAND, Fla.  – Lipscomb women's soccer made their way back to the Sunshine State on Thursday for a showdown with the Stetson Hatters. The Bisons battled with the Florida team for 89 minutes before Lydia Hindt sent a shot in from 25-yards out that made its way past Stetson's defense and into the net for Lipscomb's seventh consecutive ASUN shutout win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons burst out of the gate with a fast offensive pace Thursday night in DeLand. Kiara Pralle opened the attack for the Purple and Gold, putting the match's first shot in the books just 36 seconds into play and forcing an early save from the Hatters' keeper.

Faith Adams followed the attempt with her own shot at the two-minute mark. Center back Katia Hanger made her way up the field to record a shot of her own inside the seven-minute mark that went right of the target.

The Bisons continued to hammer the Hatters' defense, as Kelli Beiler, Shelby Craft, and Lydia Hindt all logged shots within 46 seconds of each other. Kelli Beiler led the Bisons with four shots in the first half, followed by Shelby Craft and Kiara Pralle with two shots apiece in the first frame.

Lipscomb logged 14 total shots in the first half, compared to Stetson's four, the Bisons landed six shots on target to force a big first half from the Hatters' keeper.

The Purple and Gold jumped right back onto the offense following the break with Bella Carapazza taking a shot four minutes into the return to place that was blocked by the Hatters' defense. Marcella Cash was the next Bison to take a shot just ahead of the 65-minute mark that was also blocked by Stetson's team.

The Hatters made a surge late in the second half, putting up one shot that missed the target and one that was collected by Sara Kile. Stetson's offense notched another shot in the 76th minute that was again denied by Lipscomb's defense.

The two teams continued to battle with shots added to the books for each team before a brief pause in the game with just over two minutes on the clock gave the Bisons time to regroup and refocus their efforts on Stetson's defensive end. Marcella Cash logged a shot just over a minute out from the final whistle that was sent out of bounds by Stetson's defense, awarding Lipscomb a corner kick.

After the corner kick's initial crash in the box was cleared away by the Hatters, Lydia Hindt stepped into space outside the 18-yard box and sent in a rocket of a shot that glanced off a Stetson defender and found the back of the net with just 36 seconds left on the clock. Fraught play followed the quick kickoff, but the Bisons held firm and clinched a trip to 2023 ASUN postseason play with the final whistle.
