Men’s Tennis Drops 4-3 Heartbreaker to UNC Asheville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis returned to the Richland Country Club Saturday evening for a matchup with the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. The Bisons made a strong surge in singles play, but the Bulldogs took the match 4-3.
 
The two squads clashed from the first serve as the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point with two aggressive wins on courts one and two to open the match. At the No. 1 position, Maksim Bogdanovich and Jake Penny fell 6-0 to their UNC Asheville opponents while Carlos Salas Tulla and Luka Stojanovic were defeated 6-4 on court two.
 
Battle continued in singles play as Jake Penny fell to his opponent on court three (6-3, 6-2), followed shortly after by Maksim Bogdanovich's own fall at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-2).
 
The Bisons came back swinging and cut Bulldogs' lead to one point with wins on courts two and four. Freshman Henrique Ushizima earned a two-set win at the No. 2 spot to put the Bisons on the board (6-3, 6-3). Vikash Singh showed his grit in a drawn-out fight with his opponent on court four, culminating in Singh's third singles victory of the season at (6-2, 7-6(7-5)).
 
The pressure was on for courts five and six and the competitors from both teams rose to the occasion for a set of electric matches. Luka Stojanovic fell to his Bulldog foe on court five (6-4, 6-3). Carlos Salas Tulla brought home the final point of the match for Lipscomb 6-3, 7-6(7-5) to end the scoring at 4-3 in UNC Asheville's favor.

Lipscomb's men's tennis team will hit the road next weekend to take on Dayton on Friday, Feb. 17 in a matchup beginning at 6:00pm CST.
