HOW IT HAPPENED
Claira McGowan put in the game's first points on a three-pointer which was assisted by Ainhoa Cea, followed by two made free throws by Jalyn Holcomb for an early 5-0 advantage. The Bisons made their first bucket but went cold from the floor, missing their next six attempts.
Stetson took the lead midway through the first quarter and pushed their lead to four at the end of the quarter (16-12). The Bisons went 4-of-11 from the floor and 1-of-6 from deep in the first ten minutes. Stetson forced the Bisons into six first quarter turnovers which resulted in eight points. They also dominated to painted area, winning that battle 14-4.
The Hatters led by as much as seven in the second frame, but the Bisons began to collect themselves, going on a 7-0 run to tie the contest with 3:02 left in the second frame.
Stetson took the lead back with a free throw but not for long as Bella Vinson answered with a triple to go up two. Lipscomb finished the quarter with another seven point swing capped by a one-legged buzzer beater from the three-point line by McGowan to end a 25-point second period.
McGowan led the way in the first half for the Bisons with 11 points followed by Bella Vinson who tallied eight points between the two quarters. They finished the half shooting an even 50% from the floor and buried five triples.
The Bisons cooled down offensively in the third quarter but played hard-nosed defense throughout the frame. Lipscomb forced Stetson into shooting 4-of-16 from the floor in the third, which helped them hold on to their double-digit lead going into the fourth.
The Purple and Gold continued to execute in the final quarter to stretch their lead to 17 (64-47) on a free throw from Jalyn Holcomb. Stetson got some late shot to fall, cutting their deficit to 13, but the Bisons prevailed on the road and bounced back from their loss on Thursday with a 17 point win to push them to 18-9 overall and 12-3 in the ASUN.
