THE SHORT STORY

Lipscomb Women's Basketball holds off late Bellarmine push to win sixth-straight road ASUN contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons got off to an efficient start, quickly jumping to a 7-2 lead with only two minutes past.

Bellarmine settled in and switched to a full-court press to slow down the Bisons' attack. The Knights went on a short 6-0 which gave them their first lead of the game.

Bella Vinson showed some excellent footwork around the rim and scored to halt the Knight's six-point swing.

Lipscomb began to hit shots from outside, including a stretch where they hit three straight from deep near the end of the quarter to expand their lead to nine with a minute left in the quarter.

After connecting on two free throws to close the frame, Lipscomb held an 11-point advantage at the end of the first.

Bellarmine opened the second by hitting some shots from outside, but the Bisons eventually got some stops and started to pushed the pace offensively.

Their tempo resulted in some open shots in the second quarter before Bellarmine's defense could get set.

The momentum continued to shift the Bisons' way as they began to stretch their lead midway through the second frame. Bellarmine later cut their deficit to five with 4:57 left in the second.

Lipscomb continued to lock in on the defensive end and continued to get shots to fall from outside.

The pace also forced the Knights into some fouls giving the squad eight chances at the line in the quarter, where they connected on six of those attempts.

As she often has this season, Vinson closed the quarter with a bucket, this time on a floater in the paint to give the squad a 15-point lead (47-22) at the half.

Lipscomb shot 50% from the field in the first half and knocked seven threes down. Bella Vinson led the Bisons in the scoring column with 14 points, while Claira McGowan put in 10.

Bellarmine began to heat up in the third quarter and outscored Lipscomb 27-22.

Both teams shot the ball efficiently in the quarter, with each of them reaching the 50% mark.

Bellarmine controlled the glass in the quarter, outrebounding the Bisons 13-3, including six offensive rebounds, which resulted in 10 second-chance points.

Despite the third quarter, the Bisons still held a 10-point lead with one quarter to go.

An 11-0 run by the Knights at the beginning of the fourth gave them a one-point lead with 5:54 remaining, forcing a timeout by Coach Sumski.

Bellarmine hit some tough midrange jumpers despite pretty solid defense from the Bisons, which help them take the lead. They also continued to pound the glass and convert on their opportunities down low.

Lipscomb became lackluster with the ball as the Knights got back into their full-court pressure, forcing a few turnovers.

McGowan responded with two buckets huge buckets inside, and then she drew a blocking foul for two more points at the line.

The Bisons held a six-point lead with 3:42 to go. Lipscomb began to play patiently, using the most of the shot clock to limit Bellarmine's possessions down the stretch.

Molly Heard put the game out of reach with an and-one to push the lead back out to six after a late Bellarmine score.

Lipscomb made their free throws late and secured the 87-82 win on the road, their six-straight ASUN road victory this season.
