HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb struck first in their first at-bats in the series. After a lead-off walk from Caleb Ketchup and a wild pitch, which allowed him to advance to second, Alex Vergara was hit by a pitch allowing him to take a base, giving the Bisons two runners on.
Mason Lundgrin laid down a bunt to advance both runners. Then, Trace Willhoite sent a ball deep into right field which allowed Ketchup to tag and score. However, inning ended as the Bulldog's right fielder threw out Vergara after the flyout, keeping the score a 1-0.
The Bulldogs first threatened in the bottom of the second inning with a double and single in the frame, but the Bisons held Mississippi State to no runs., moving the to the third.
After no action in the top of the third, the Bulldogs exploded for five in their half of inning. The first came on a hit batter with the bases load. The Bulldogs then singled to left center to plate two and doubled down the right field line scoring two more for a 5-1 advantage for the home team.
Lipscomb had a promising fourth inning at the plate, with a single from Lundgrin and then two walks to load the bases, but with two outs, Bisons stranded all three on a fly out to the right field to close the frame which kept the Bulldogs firmly infront.
Mississippi State added another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing in their runner from third, and continued to pour it on with a two-run bomb to right, increasing their lead to 8-1.
Lipscomb struggled to string together hits at the plate the entire game, with only four hits in 26 at-bats. The Bisons' other run came in the top of the eight on an Alex Vergara single up the middle that scored Ketchup after he was hit by a pitch and then advanced on a passed ball to second.
That was all the Bisons could manufacture as Lipscomb was unable to overcome the deficit as Mississippi State took the 8-2 victory.
