Game One

Both defensive units controlled the beginning of game one, with several impressive defensive plays to limit base runners and prevent runs from scoring.

The Bulldogs struck first after two uneventful innings, on a lead-off walk and then a wild pitch which allowed their base runner to move to second. A single to left field allowed the runner on second to score, giving Mississippi State a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, they'd bring in another run on a bases-loaded walk. But still, with the bases loaded, Mason Lundgrin gets the force out at home, and then starting pitcher Braydon Tucker pitches strikes out his next batter to end the inning, only allowing the two runs to cross home plate.

Lipscomb answered in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with three singles. Chaz Bertolani was granted a base on a full-count walk to plate the Bisons' first run of the frame. Parks Bouck then flew out to left field, allowing another run to score to level the score.

Mississippi State took back the lead on a line-drive homer over the left-center field wall in the bottom of the sixth. Relief pitcher Logan Van Treeck began to settle in after giving up the homer, allowing just one base runner in the following two innings of work.

Lipscomb evened the score in the top of the ninth, as Kyle Hetherington stole home on a pick-off attempt to first, but the Bulldogs walked it off on a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to take game one 4-3.

Game Two

Lipscomb put the first run on the board in the final matchup of the series with an RBI single from Austin Kelly which plated Alex Vergara after he and Mason Lundgrin walked in their opening at-bats.

Mississippi State quickly tied things up in their first few at-bats of game three on a ground out to short, advancing their runner on third to home. They'd then take the lead after a three-up, three-down inning at the plate for the Bisons, with a solo home run from their first at-bat of the next half inning for a 2-1 edge. The Bulldogs added another run on a sacrifice fly to increase their lead to two runs.

Jake Berg gave the Bisons an edge with a double down the third base line, scoring two, and then a throwing error plated another for a 4-3 lead. Lipscomb would not hold on to that lead for long as the Bulldogs singled to left field to score in their subsequent plate appearances and then they hit a bases-clearing three-run double down the right field line for a quick 7-4 advantage.

Mississippi State continued to add on runs in the frame with back-to-back homers, the first being a two-run shot and then a solo home run to left field, their seventh run of the inning. They then added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, piling on insurance runs.

Lipscomb threatened in the top of the eight with a pair of walks and a double to right from Cam McMillan to load the bases, but with two outs, and in field pop out ended the inning.

The Bisons eventually dropped game three of the weekend 12-4, resulting in a sweep in their final non-conference series of the season.
