Men’s Tennis Drops Two Ahead of ASUN Play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis welcomed a pair of non-conference opponents to the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center for the first two matches of a three-match weekend. The Bisons fell 6-1 to the Richmond Spiders on Thursday and dropped a 4-2 heartbreaker to the Northern Kentucky Norse on Saturday.

The Bisons once again played with five players on Thursday, forfeiting the doubles match on three and the point on court six for singles before the match began. The Spiders extended their early lead with doubles wins on courts one and two over Maksim Bogdanovich and Luka Stojanovic (6-2) and Vikash Singh and Henrique Ushizima (6-4) respectively.

Lipscomb's team fought back in singles play, relinquishing the points on court two and court one in straight set losses for Ushizima (6-2, 6-2) and Bogdanovich (6-2, 6-3) respectively before Carlos Salas Tulla earned the Bisons a point on court five with his own straight set victory at 6-3, 6-3.

Stojanovic and Singh put up strong fights against their Spider opponents and took them to three sets before ultimately falling. Stojanovic fell 2-6, 7-5, 2-10 to his opponent on court four and Singh recorded scores of 4-6, 6-, 9-11 on court three as the final singles match of the day.

The Bisons brought a determined energy into their Saturday match, looking to capitalize on the energy a full six would afford them.

Lipscomb's squad clashed with the Norse hard in doubles play. Northern Kentucky claimed the first doubles court in a 6-1 win on court three over Singh and Ushizima. Jake Penny and Carlos Salas Tulla responded with a 6-3 win on court two for the Bisons.

After a fierce battle, the Norse emerged with the doubles point following their 6-4 victory at the top spot over Bogdanovich and Stojanovic.

The Purple and Gold turned up the heat in singles play, despite the chilly weather, claiming the first set on three of the six courts. Salas Tulla (7-6(7-3), 6-3) and Ushizima (7-5, 6-3) capitalized on their momentum and delivered straight set wins to give the Bisons a 2-1 lead.

The four remaining singles courts all made it to a third set after Bogdanovich, Singh, and Stojanovic claimed wins in their second sets to hold off their Norse foes.

Northern Kentucky put up a strong opposition; however, and the Norse tied things up with a 7-6(7-5), 2-6, 6-1 win on court four over Vikash Singh. Bogdanovich then fell 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 to his opponent on court one to give the Norse the go-ahead point.

The Norse capitalized on their momentum and took home the match with a 6-7(6-8), 6-4, 6-1 win on court three over Jake Penny for a 4-2 victory to the Norse.
