THE SHORT STORY
The Bisons used a three-run fourth inning and a one-run on two-hit performance by
Brinkley Kita to clinch a 3-1 win over Green Bay in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons nearly broke through early in the opening game as
Kelly Paulson and
Presley Leebrick both singled in the bottom of the first, but Green Bay obtained the final outs to keep the score level.
The Phoenix scored a run on two hits in the top of the second inning to capture the early lead.
Lipscomb responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as
Briyana Wright hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to plate
Maci Cunconan from third and even the score at 1-1.
After
Josey Polk scored on a wild pitch during the next at-bat,
Elise Shewmaker singled through the left side to score
Joie Giarrizzo from third to give the Bisons a 3-1 lead.
Kita did not allow a Green Bay hit in their final three at-bats to clinch the non-conference win for Lipscomb.
Kita earned her second win in the circle for the Bisons, allowing only an unearned run on two hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Green Bay's Paeton Kringel allowed three earned runs on six hits in 6.0 innings of work to be credited with the loss in the circle.
Paulson went 2 for 3 from the dish to pace the Bisons, while Shewmaker, Leebrick, Cunconan, and Polk also collected hits for Lipscomb.

Lipscomb scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and another insurance run in the bottom of the third, while
Emily Yakubowski only allowed one Eastern Illinois run in the top of the sixth, to clinch the non-conference sweep with a 3-1 win over the Panthers in the later game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning of play, Lipscomb opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as Wright was hit by a pitch with bases loaded that scored Cunconan from third to put the Bisons on the board first. Shewmaker hit a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat that scored Polk from third to extend the lead to 2-0.
Lipscomb extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning as Leebrick hit her team-leading fourth triple of the season down the right-field line and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kamrie Rich.
Eastern Illinois cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth with a run on two hits, but Yakubowski was able to obtain the final two outs of the inning and held the Panthers to no hits in their final at-bat to clinch the non-conference victory.
Yakubowski picked up her seventh win in the circle for Lipscomb this season, allowing only one unearned run on four hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Eastern Illinois' Alexa Rehmeier was credited with the loss in the circle, allowing one earned run on two hits in 3.0 innings of work, while Rachel Kaufman gave up only one hit in 3.0 innings of relief.
Polk went 2 for 3 with a run scored to pace the Bisons in the later game, while Leebrick also collected a hit in the final game of the day.

Lipscomb will open conference play on Saturday as the Bisons opened up a three-game home series with Bellarmine starting at 1 p.m.
