THE SHORT STORY
The Bisons used three total home runs, two by
Kamrie Rich and another by
Joie Giarrizzo, and a three-run fifth inning to clinch an 8-1 victory over Bellarmine in the team's ASUN conference opener on the Draper Diamond.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as
Maci Cunconan drew a walk with bases loaded to score
Elise Shewmaker and give the Bisons the early lead.
After Bellarmine responded with a solo home run in the top of the second inning to even the score at 1-1, Rich hit a two-run home run over the right-field fence to give the Bisons a 3-1 lead.
Giarrizzo added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth as she hit her first career home run over the fence in right field to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Bisons pushed their lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth as
Katelyn Belding doubled to left field to score both
Josey Polk and
Kyndall Crawford.
Kaylyn Belfield scored Belding later on in the half-inning to give Lipscomb a 7-1 lead, while Rich hit her second home run of the game over the left-field fence to close out the Bisons scoring in the early game.
Emily Yakubowski picked up her 8th win in the circle for Lipscomb, allowing only one earned run on four hits in six innings of work.
Macey Ogle did not allow a hit in 1.0 innings of relief.
Bellarmine's Elli Jensen was credited with the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings of work. Carson Goatley allowed three runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of relief.
Rich paced the Bisons in the early game from the plate, going 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs, while Belding, Giarrizzo, Cunconan, and Polk combined for the other five RBIs. Nine Bisons collected hits in the early game.

Lipscomb used a two-run bottom of the second inning and a two-hit shutout by
Brinkley Kita to close out its first day of ASUN action with a 4-0 win over Bellarmine on Draper Diamond.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, Lipscomb opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as
Jack Busch doubled to right-center field to plate Giarrizzo from first base and give the Bisons an early 1-0 lead.
The Bisons extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third as Belding reached on a fielding error by Bellarmine that scored both
Josey Polk and
Kamrie Rich.
Lipscomb closed out their scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning as Belfield scored while Bellarmine was trying to catch
Elise Shewmaker stealing second base.
Kita picked up her third win in the circle for Lipscomb, allowing only two hits in 7.0 inning of work.
Bellarmine's Claire Lehmkuhler gave up two earned runs on six hits to be credited with the loss in the circle.
Busch paced the Bisons from the dish, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Shewmaker,
Presley Leebrick, Polk, and Belding also collected hits for Lipscomb.
