Softball Stumbles Against Jacksonville in Saturday Doubleheader

THE SHORT STORY
After Jacksonville tallied a pair of two-run innings to take the early lead, Lipscomb rallied with three runs on two hits in the top of the sixth to cut into the deficit. The Dolphins were able to record the final three outs to clinch the conference win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless 2.5 innings of play, Jacksonville score two runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning to take the early lead and extended their lead to four with two runs on one hit in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
The Bisons responded in the top of the sixth inning as Kaylyn Belfield led off with a single, followed by a walk by Elise Shewmaker and a single by Kelly Paulson to load the bases for Lipscomb. Presley Leebrick hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field to plate Belfield form third to cut into the lead.
 

 
Maci Cunconan reached on a Jacksonville error, a couple of at-bats later, with both Paulson and Shewmaker scoring on the play to trim the deficit to 4-3.
 

 
The Dolphins were able to obtain the final out of that inning and hold the Bisons hitless in the final at-bat to clinch the conference win.
 
Emily Yakubowski was credited with the loss in the circle for Lipscomb, allowing two earned runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of work, while Laine Barefoot surrendered three hits in 3.2 innings of relief.
 
Jacksonville's Emma Whitfield gave up one earned run on three hits to earn the victory in the circle, while Ashlee Harwood did not allow a hit in 2.0 innings of relief.
 
Paulson, Cunconan, and Belfield all collected hits for the Bisons in the opening game.

THE SHORT STORY
After Lipscomb opened the scoring with a solo home run by Katelyn Belding in the top of the second, Jacksonville scored eight runs in the bottom of the third and a final insurance run in bottom of the fifth, while only allowing two more Lipscomb runs in the top of the fourth, to clinch the conference win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning of play, Belding took the third pitch she saw over the fence for her second home run of the season to give the Bisons the early lead in the later game.
 

 
The Dolphins responded with eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the third to recapture the lead.
 
The Bisons chipped into the deficit in the top of the fourth as Cunconan and Belding hit back-to-back singles to put two runners on with only one out. Jack Busch hit a single to left field in the next at-bat to score Cunconan.
 

 
Paulson followed that up with a single of her own to score Belding from third and trim the Jacksonville lead to 8-3.
 

 
The Dolphins scored a final run in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the conference win.
 
Macey Ogle was credited with the loss in the circle for Lipscomb, allowing three earned runs on four hits in 4.0 innings of relief, while Brinkley Kita gave up four earned runs on four hits in the first 2.0 innings.
 
Jacksonville's Shelby Harpe allowed two earned runs on six hits to earn the victory in the circle.
 
Belding and Paulson paced the Bisons in the later game, combining to go 4 of 6 from the plate with a solo home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Cunconan and Jack Busch also registered hits for Lipscomb.

Lipscomb will close out its ASUN weekend series against Jacksonville tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. CT.
