Women’s Tennis Earns Split Results in ASUN Weekend

CLARKSVILLE/NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Lipscomb women's tennis took on two conference foes this weekend as they traveled to Clarksville, Tenn. to face off with Austin Peay on Saturday before returning home to contend with Bellarmine. The Bisons fell 7-0 to the Governors on the road but bounced back for an impressive 6-1 win at home over the Knights.
 
The Purple and Gold stumbled from the get-go on Saturday, dropping the doubles point with a 6-1 loss on court three for Liza Diachenko and Perri Howard and a 6-2 loss on court two for Sofiia Paladi and Alina Cherniaieva.
 
The Bisons further struggled in singles play in Clarksville with every Bison aside from Sasha Dobranos falling to their opponents in two sets. Dobranos took her opponent through a three-set battle that finally saw the Governors claim the top court with scores of 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to secure the point.
 
Lipscomb's squad hit their home courts running on Sunday, emerging with all three victories in doubles to the momentum and the lead early in the match.
 
Liza Diachenko secured her victory with a speedy 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court four to open singles play in the Bisons' favor. Taisia Yakunina and Alina Cherniaieva fed off of her energy and claimed 6-1, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 wins on courts six and five respectively to secure the match for the Bisons with a 4-0 lead.
 
Sasha Dobranos brought home the final straight-set win of the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the top spot for her 12th singles victory of the season.
 
After a drawn-out battle on court three, Anja Trbeznik fell to her opponent 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 as the Knights bid to hold off a Lipscomb sweep. Sofiia Paladi responded with a three-set win in Lipscomb's favor on court two as she defeated her foe 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 to claim the 6-1 victory for the squad to end the weekend.
