THE SHORT STORY

Lipscomb women's basketball's ASUN Championship run came to an end in Lynchburg, Virginia, Wednesday night after a strong first quarter by the Flames proved too much to overcome. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Flames scored the game's first 19 points as the Bisons struggled to get shots to fall in the first quarter. Lipscomb's first points would come at the 3:26 mark of the first frame with two made free throws by Bella Vinson for a 19-2 score. 

The Bisons finally got a shot to fall with 2:56 remaining on a three-pointer from Vinson in transition.

However, the Flames answered with a triple of their own on the next possession, giving Liberty a 24-5 advantage after the first ten minutes of play. 

Lipscomb cut their deficit to 16 on two made free throws by Jalyn Holcomb with 6:21 left on the clock, which capped off an 8-0 run for the Bisons. Each team went on separate scoring spurts in the second frame, but Liberty managed to maintain their advantage from the first quarter, leading at halftime 41-20. 

The Bisons shot just 20.7 percent from the floor in the first half and had nine turnovers, leading to 14 points for the Flames. 

Lipscomb shot the ball better in the second half, but their first-quarter deficit was too much to overcome. The Bisons continued to battle, eventually cutting their deficit down to 18 on a bucket inside from Aleah Sorrentino, but the Flames scored the following seven points, putting the contest out of reach, as the third frame neared an end.  

As a result, Lipscomb women's basketball saw their ASUN Championship run cut short in the semifinal round with an 84-56 decision. 

HERD NOTES

• Lipscomb shot 30.2 percent from the floor, while the Flames shot just over 40 percent. 
• Liberty scored 26 points off turnovers and outscored the Bisons in the paint 32-12. 
• Aleah Sorrentino led the Bisons with 14 points, followed by Blythe Pearson, who finished with 13.
• The Flames outrebounded the Bisons 49-40, including 21 offensive boards.
