THE SHORT STORY
Austin Peay scored two runs in the top of the second inning, three runs in the top of the fourth inning, and a final insurance run in the top of the sixth to clinch the opening game of the ASUN doubleheader this afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Governors nearly broke through in the top of the first inning, but Josey Polk, Meghan Kline, and Tori Womack completed the 5-4-3 double play to keep the score level at 0-0.
 


Austin Peay broke the deadlock in the top of the second inning with two runs on one hit and two errors by the Bisons to take the early lead.
 
The Governors scored three more runs on three hits to extend their lead to 5-0 in the top of the fourth.
 
The Bisons threatened in the bottom of the fourth inning as Elise Shewmaker and Maci Cunconan walked, while Presley Leebrick singled, to load the bases. Austin Peay was able to obtain the final out to hold Lipscomb scoreless.
 
The Governors closed out their scoring with a single run in the top of the sixth inning.
 
Emily Yakubowski was credited with the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs on five hits in 4.0 innings of work, while Laine Barefoot allowed only one earned run on two hits in 3.0 innings of relief.
 
Austin Peay's Jordan Benefield allowed only five hits in 7.0 innings to earn the win in the circle.
 
Leebrick and Kaylyn Belfield both tallied multiple hits to lead the Bisons, while Josey Polk also collected a hit in the loss.

THE SHORT STORY
Austin Peay scored three runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning en route to clinching the victory in the later game of the ASUN doubleheader.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Governors opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning on two hits to take the early lead.
 
After the Bisons threatened with a pair of hits by Belfield and Leebrick, Austin Peay tallied seven runs on only four hits to extend the lead to 10-0.
 
Lipscomb broke through in the bottom of the third inning as Meghan Kline and Leebrick singled, while Belfield walked, to lead the bases for Kamrie Rich. Rich drew a walk to score Kline and give the Bisons their first run of the contest.
 

 
The Governors held the Bisons scoreless in the final two at-bats, while adding a single run in the top of the fifth to clinch the conference win.
 
Brinkley Kita was credited with the loss in the circle for the Bisons, allowing three earned runs on two hits in 1.0 innings of work, while Barefoot and Macey Ogle combined to allow four earned runs on six hits in 4.0 innings of relief.
 
Austin Peay's Samantha Miener picked up the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on four hits in 3.0 innings of work, while Ashley Martin allowed only two hits in 2.0 innings of relief.
 
Belfield and Leebrick both tallied multiple hits for the second-straight game, while Shewmaker and Kline also collected hits in the loss.
