HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb ended the series with a sweep over the Gamecocks in a 9-6 win to close out the regular season at Ken Dugan Field.
The Bisons and Gamecocks played two scoreless innings until the third, where Lipscomb put a three spot on the board.
The frame started on the first swing of David Coppedge's at-bat as he solo homered to left field for the first run of the contest. Caleb Ketchup then singled through the left side to advance Will Lee to second, who singled through the opposite side after the homer.
Alex Vergara plated the subsequent two runs on a double over the outstretched glove of the Gamecock's left fielder at the warning track to cap off the three-run spurt.
Jacksonville State answered with a four-run top of the fourth to take a one run lead. After a single to open the inning, the visitors hit a two-run blast to cut their deficit to one score. Later in the frame, with the bases loaded, a grounder to short allowed another run across, and then a sacrifice flies to right field plated the final run of the inning for Jacksonville State.
The Bisons continued to put up runs, scoring six runs in the following three periods, including four in the fifth. After a single by Ketchup, Vergara unleashed his 17th homer of the season to put the Bisons back in front. Then, Austin Kelly followed that act with a two-run rocket later in the order to bring home Mason Lundgrin who reached on a hit-by-pitch.
In the seventh, Lipscomb scored on a triple down the left field line by Ketchup, rounding Will Lee, who reached on his second base hit of the outing. They then scored their ninth and final run of the series finale in the seventh on a single from Lee again, allowing Coppedge and Jake Berg to touch home after being granted a base after to a walk and hit-by-pitch.
The Gamecocks added two runs in the top of the seventh but nothing more as the Bisons completed the three-game sweep in their regular season finale at Ken Dugan Field, ending with a 18-7 record at home.
