NASHVILLE -- Lipscomb Women's Golf's
Mary Kate Smith and
Lauren Thompson were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, it was announced Tuesday.
Smith adds to the honor after being named the ASUN Golfer of the Year, ASUN First Team All-Conference and the ASUN All-Academic Team while boasting a 3.94 GPA while studying accounting. Smith finished as the tournament runner-up at the Edisto Island Invitational and tied for first at the Lady Bison Classic. The Melbourne, Fla. native shot Lipscomb's lowest individual round in program history (65, -6) at the GolfWeek Fall Challenge, the squad's season-opening tournament. The senior finished top-10 in seven of her nine tournaments and finished top-20 in the field in all nine regular-season tournaments. At the end of the regular season, Smith ranked 95
th in Division-I and 45
th in the region in score vs. par (0.78) according to GolfStat and led the ASUN GolfStat Conference head-to-head standings.
Thompson adds the honor after a stellar year in which she was the ASUN Tournament Individual Champion and ASUN Second Team All-Conference. In addition, she finished with a 4.0 this year while studying Graphic Design. Thompson was one of the Bisons' leaders this season with wins at both the White Sands Invitational and the Edisto Island Invitational and a runner-up finish at the Georgia State Invitational to wrap up the regular season. The sophomore finished top-10 in five of her nine tournaments and finished top-25 in eight tournaments during the regular season.. Thompson was named the ASUN Women's Golfer of the Week three times this season and ranks eighth in the ASUN GolfStat ASUN head-to-head rankings. At the end of the regular season, Thompson ranked 130
th in Division I and 60
th in the region in score vs par (1.07) according to GolfStat.
