NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's soccer dropped a hard-fought match to the Tennessee Volunteers Sunday afternoon after the visitors logged three goals in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Things got off to a hot start for the Bisons with shots from Kelli Beiler and Bella Carapazza that went just outside the posts in the first four minutes of action. The tense play continued throughout the opening minutes of play with Kiara Pralle logging the first shot on goal for the match, forcing a save from Tennessee's Ally Zazzara to hold the score at 0-0 moving into the 18th minute of play.
The Vols responded with a pair of shots of their own, with netminder Sara Kile logging her first save of the match just shy of the 20-minute mark. Kile faced off against a Tennessee penalty kick following a handball in the box by the Lipscomb defense and made a diving save to preserve the score standoff in the 22nd minute.
Both squads continued to trade shots with Kile logging another pair of saves before halftime. The two teams came out swinging in the second half, but it was the Volunteers who found the back of the net first just before the clock ticked over into the 51st minute of play.
The Bisons pushed back in the midfield, disrupting numerous passes between the Vols, but the visitors continued to pressure the Purple and Gold defense until they found the back of the net on a corner kick five seconds prior to the 80th minute of action. Just 46 seconds later, a drive from one of Tennessee's forwards broke through the Bisons defense and the Vols pushed their lead to 3-0 as the final 10 minutes of play counted down.
