Miller Named ASUN Women’s XC Preseason Runner of the Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a dominating 2022 season, the Bisons are within a week of their first race of the 2023 season. Lipscomb women's cross country runner made her mark last season and was named the 2023 ASUN Preseason Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year. The women's team earned the top spot in the ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll and the men were voted into second place.
"We're excited to begin competition soon for the 2023 cross country season," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Nick Polk. "We're thankful to be in a position to contend for ASUN team and individual titles again this year."
The women's squad was unanimously selected to finish first this season with all twelve votes for a total of 144 points. The men's team claimed second with 129 total points and one first place vote, just 13 points behind Eastern Kentucky in the top spot.
Lipscomb's women's cross country team return to the field after claiming the 2022 ASUN Championship title with four top-10 finishes and personal best times for all nine runners who competed from the squad. The men's squad claimed third place at the championships with a total of 102 points from four top-25 finishes and five personal bests from their nine runners.
Miller earned her place as the ASUN WXC Preseason Runner of the Year following a 2022 season in which she competed in six meets for the Bisons with five top-10 finishes. Miller opened the season with a second-place finish at the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invite (17:54.9), followed by a sixth place finish at the Gans Creek Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri, with a time of 20:38.0.
Miller hit the postseason with a pair of personal bests – a 16:26.5 in the 5k at the ASUN Conference Championships to finish second overall and a 19:52.4 in the 6k at the NCAA Division I South Region Championships to finish seventh overall. Her times at these meets set new program records for both distances and her 6k time stands as the fastest time for a female runner from the ASUN at the NCAA Division I South Region Championships to-date.
Miller's performance at Regionals earned her a trip to the 2022 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships where she earned the highest finish in program history with the second-fastest individual time for a female runner from the ASUN in that race to date as she finished 96th with a time of 20:36.8.
For her efforts, Miller was named ASUN Runner of the Week on October 19th and to the 2022 ASUN First Team All-Conference.
Miller and the rest of the Bisons will open the 2023 season on Friday, September 1st at the Belmont Opener.
