THE SHORT STORY
After going down by a pair of goals in the first half, Lipscomb battled back to a 3-2 victory with the help of a late game-winner.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sienna took an early lead in the 5' minute when it scored on its first true attack of the afternoon. The Bisons had a strong attack building, but the Saints intercepted the ball in the Bisons half and quickly mounted a counter attack up the right wing that resulted in a 1-0 lead for the Saints.
The Bisons responded well and picked up its pace and played the next several minutes largely in its final third, but continued to search for that final finish.
Lipscomb had its best look of the game in the 14' minute when Pralle found a streaking Beiler on the left wing. Beiler had a good look at goal, but the charging Sienna keeper made a good sliding save to keep Lipscomb off the board.
The Bisons continued to be the aggressor and get the better looks in its attacking third. In the 29' minute, Lipscomb nearly broke through when
Lucy Ream rose to get a head on the end of a corner kick. Her header banged off the bottom of the crossbar and back into play. Sienna was able to get out of the danger and keep the Bisons off the board.
Sienna struck again in the 39' minute for a 2-0 lead. Sienna won a free kick near midfield, which the Lipscomb defense initially cleared, but the Saints picked up the recycled ball in its final third and played a through ball to Megan Stowell. She slipped in behind the Bisons defense and slotted a left-footed shot inside the far post for a two-goal advantage.
In the 55' minute, Ream won a free kick just outside the box. Beiler took the set piece and rocketed a shot that the Sienna keeper made a diving fingertip save to keep out of the back of the net. On the resulting corner kick,
Faith Adams sent a ball to the back post where
Bella Carapazza headed the ball to the middle of the box.
Logan McFadden was there to knock the ball in for her first goal of the season, cutting the Saints' lead 2-1.
The Bisons continued to battle in the second half and leveled things in the 70' minute. Beiler had a good look at goal when she got in behind the Sienna back line, but was taken down from behind and the Bisons were awarded a penalty kick. Beiler stepped up to the spot and banged the penalty in for a 2-2 game.
Lipscomb continued to search for the winner and played much of the final minutes in its attacking third. In the 90' minute,
Bella Carapazza rocketed a shot from outside the box that forced another fingertip save from the Sienna keeper. With just 10 seconds left in the game, Lipscomb mounted one final attack in which Ream sent a ball forward and Pralle charged forward and got an outstretched right boot to the ball. The shot went just over the charging keeper and bounced in the back of the net, giving the Bisons a 3-2 lead with just two seconds to go in the match.
The final attack was enough to earn the Bisons a 3-2 victory for its first three points of the season.
