SCORING SUMMARY
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Knights had the better of possession early as the Bisons adjusted to the Bellarmine turf. Lipscomb, however settled in and started asserting themselves.
However, Bellarmine got on the board first when a scrum in the box in the 16' minute resulted in a Knights goal, putting Bellarmine up 1-0.
In the 18' minute,
Tyrese Spicer nearly got Lipscomb level when a curling left-footed shot nearly skirted under the crossbar, but the Bellarmine keeper got his fingertips on the ball for the save.
Lipscomb continued to pressure the Knights back line and
Javanne Smith had two great looks at goal in the 26' minute, but each shot went just wide of frame and the Knights clung to its lead.
The Bisons had the better possession through the final minutes of the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net and went to half time at a 1-0 deficit.
Coming out of the halftime break, Lipscomb was on the front foot and played much of the opening minutes of the frame in its half. Bellarmine had one attack against the run of play in the 56' minute, however, and put another away for a 2-0 lead.
In the 76' minute,
Nick Dang nearly got one in the net for the Bisons with a rocket that forced an impressive Bellarmine save. The Bisons kept things near its goal, however and broke through in the 77' minute. After earning a corner,
Ploutarchos Alonefti put in great service to
Nick Dang who headed the ball across the goal. George MacReady was at the far post waiting and headed the ball to the back of the net, cutting the Bellarmine lead 2-1.
Lipscomb continued to search and pressure the Knights and found the equalizer in the 85' minute when
Malachi Jones displayed impressive footwork down the left side and whipped a cross in front of the goal. The ball hit off the hands of the Bellarmine keeper, but
William Bryan was there to knock it in to equalize 2-2.
Lipscomb searched for the winning goal and had a corner kick with just 30 seconds left in the match, but were unable to find the back of the net. The game seemed like it would end in a draw, but with seven seconds left,
Wyland Worley sent a ball to the middle of the field where Dang knocked it to Spicer who was at the top of the box. He put a laser of a left-footed shot past the Bellarmine keeper to seal the victory.
Lipscomb defended the final seconds of the game and gutted out the 3-2 victory.
