Bisons Deliver Decisive Shutout Win Over Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Lipscomb women's soccer team closed out their second weekend of ASUN play with a decisive 5-0 shutout road win over the Jacksonville University Dolphins. Emanuela Schurch, Kelli Beiler, and Katia Hanger recorded the first three goals of the match followed by Paige Archbold and Summer Ellmore with the first goals of their collegiate careers to top off Lipscomb's Thursday afternoon performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons matched the heat of the day with their aggressive offense from the first whistle of Sunday's match. Lipscomb's squad drove through Dolphins looking for a weak spot in the opening minutes of play and found it in short order as Alivia Carapazza broke through the midfield and sent a ball towards the goal that was punched away by Jacksonville's keeper. Emanuela Schurch was lurking in the box and finished the play with a right-footer through traffic to put the Bisons on the board just before the eight-minute mark and with the very first shot of the match.

The Bisons continued to run a fast offensive game, demonstrated by Alivia Carapazza taking a big shot from deep in the field that went high over the crossbar. Lipscomb's aggression paid off once more just over halfway through the first half as Kelli Beiler danced around a trio of Dolphin defenders to rip a right-footer from out of the right side of the six-yard box to the back left bottom corner of the net.

Kiara Pralle got in on the action with a shot that went high just inside the 27th minute, but Pralle came back for more and put a shot on target just 38 seconds later that forced a save from the Dolphins' keeper. Two minutes later, Marcella Cash was on the attack and recorded a pair of shots in the 29th and 31st minutes. Cash's first shot was blocked by a Jacksonville defender and her second went just high over the crossbar.

The Dolphins dug deep to return the pressure, recording their first shot of the match 32 minutes into play that was stopped handily by netminder Sara Kile. The Bisons were back on the attack just a few minutes later and freshman Bella Carapazza ripped a shot from the top of the box that slammed into the crossbar, down into the six-yard box, then away from the goal.

Jacksonville's offense took two more shots that both went wide right of the goal and the score held at 2-0 in the Bisons' favor moving into the break. Lipscomb's squad kept the heat high as the final 45 began with KK Pavatt putting her first shot of the game on the books 49 minutes into the action, but it went left of the goal.

The Bisons continued hammering on the Jacksonville defense with five shots in four minutes including a second shot from Bella Carapazza to the crossbar. The Purple and Gold's persistence paid off less than two minutes later as Katia Hanger earned her first goal of the season with a header off a corner kick from Faith Adams in the 58th minute to push the Bisons to a 3-0 lead.

The two programs continued to battle but the Bisons continued to press their advantage with Pavatt and Schurch each putting up their second shots of the match as the clock ticked into the final 30 minutes of play.

Inside the 71st minute of action, the Bisons made a line change for all 11 players on the field and the next set of players immediately got to work putting the offensive pressure onto the Dolphins once more. Shadia Valenzuela and Lucy Hurst each took shots in the 73rd minute but were held off by Jacksonville's defense.

Haley Williams recorded her own shot in the 75th minute, but it went high over the crossbar. The Bisons struck once more in the 78th minute of play as Paige Archbold netted her first collegiate goal with a header off of a corner kick to extend the Bisons' lead to 4-0.

Two minutes later, Chloe Brown made her way to the top of the box on a drive down the field and put a shot on the top left corner of the goal but was denied at the last second by the Dolphins' keeper. Evee Reeder logged a shot of her own that went right of the goal.

The Bisons weren't done yet; however, and after a failed throw-in interruption from Jacksonville, Summer Ellmore fought her way through the Dolphins' defense and scored her first collegiate goal with a neat right-footer to the bottom left corner of the net, pushing Lipscomb's lead to 5-0 with less than five minutes remaining.

Just and Valenzuela each put up shots in the remaining minutes of play, but Jacksonville's defense held on and the Bisons' shutout victory was sealed with the final whistle.
