THE SHORT STORY
A clinical second-half performance led Lipscomb to a 91-77 victory over ASUN foe Austin Peay in front of a large home crowd Saturday afternoon in Allen Arena. Derrin Boyd led Lipscomb with 24 points while Dylan Faulkner poured in a career-high 15 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The pace out of the gate was furious as the squads traded buckets early. Lipscomb got its first lead of the matchup when Will Pruitt drained a three-pointer for a 13-12 advantage heading into the first media timeout.

Out of the timeout, Lipscomb began to get stops on the defensive end, but continued to cash in on the offensive side and opened a 23-18 advantage, its largest of the night with just over 12 minutes left in the half.

The three-ball was falling early for the Bisons with four falling in the first nine minutes. Just before the under-12 media timeout, Joe Anderson cashed in on a triple for a 26-18 Bisons advantage.

Out of the timeout, Austin Peay went on a 7-0 run, cutting the Lipscomb lead down to a point before Grant Asman got Lipscomb back on the board with a couple points in the paint.

The back-and-forth affair continued as both teams were shooting at an extremely high clip. Each team would go on mini-runs, but neither could pull away significantly.

At the half, Austin Peay held the slight advantage as the Bisons trailed 41-39 heading into the locker room.

The frenzied pace continued through the first minutes of the second half as the defenses struggled to stop each other from scoring.

At the first media timeout of the second frame, Lipscomb held a slight 53-52 advantage, while still shooting 58-percent from the floor.

Lipscomb got some momentum out of the break, holding the Govs to just one of its next seven shots, to open a 61-53 advantage and force an Austin Peay timeout.

Lipscomb continued to dominate defensively and utilized an extended 13-1 run, pushing out to a comfortable 66-53 lead with 9:10 left to play.

Lipscomb extended its run 19-1 before the Govs got back on the board.

The Bisons continued to methodically break down Austin Peay on both ends. At the final media timeout of the second half, Lipscomb held a commanding 82-64 lead with 3:37 to play.

The Bisons held onto its lead down the stretch and saw out a 91-77 victory over Austin Peay for its first ASUN victory at home this season.
