HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a dominant opening set for Lipscomb, getting out to a 6-1 start after kills by
Sophia Hudepohl and
Courtney Jones and a solo block by
Meg Mersman.
Not even West Georgia's timeouts could phase the Bisons, as the visitors swelled the lead to 20-9.
Leading the charge was
Courtney Jones, who had eight of the team's 16 kills in the opening frame, posting three attack errors on 29 swings to win the opener 25-10. West Georgia, as a team, had just six spikes.
Set number two was more competitive, but the Bisons were able to pick up where they left off in the first. Tied at five, LUV went on a 14-4 run to lead 19-9.
Despite the Wolves cutting the deficit to 24-17, Mersman clinched the set for the 25-17 victory and the 2-0 match lead.
In the third, UWG attempted to stop a rally by Lipscomb, but after a Mersman kill and back-to-back joint blocks by Mersman and
Sophia Hudepohl, that swung the momentum back in the Bisons favor for good en route to a 25-16 victory and a straight-set sweep.
