Eight Score in Double Figures as Women’s Basketball Routs Oglethorpe to Conclude Non-Conference Slate

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University women's basketball team scored the most points in a game since the 2007 season with a 113-38 victory over Oglethorpe University to end a three-game losing skid, Wednesday afternoon from Allen Arena.

Final Score: Lipscomb 113, Oglethorpe 38
Location: Allen Arena
Records: Lipscomb (7-4), Oglethorpe (7-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a slow start for the Bisons, as they missed their first three shots from downtown, but Bella Vinson, who scored eight of the team's 24 points in the opening quarter, got the scoring going with a shot from downtown off a Petrel turnover over a minute into the game.

With the clock running down in the period, off a Jalyn Holcomb defensive rebound, Claira McGowan drained a floater as the clock runs out to lead 24-11 after 10 minutes of play.

In the second, the Bisons used a 22-2 run to swell the lead to 57-19 with 1:28 left in the half.

Scoring a new record for points in a quarter, the Bisons outscored the Petrels 37-11 in the second to lead 61-22 at the break. Lippy drained 15-of-22 from the field, including 7-of-14 from downtown.

The Bisons posted 61 points in the first half, the first since 2015 that they dropped 60 in a half and the first since women's basketball went to quarters.

KEY STATISTICS
The Bisons saw eight of the 10 players hit double figures on Wednesday, led by Bella Vinson's 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including four triples, and added three assists and two steals.

Taylor Bowen recorded a double-double with 11 points and rebounds each, while Claira McGowan posted 14 points and four dimes.

Off the bench, Addison Melton, Isabella Pitta and Elena Bertrand each had 13 points. Bertrand added three steals, while Pitta contributed eight boards.

Molly Heard and Jalyn Holcomb each scored 11 points. Holcomb added seven dimes and four steals.

HERD NOTES
The team set new highs in points off turnovers (42), in the paint (38) and matched points off the bench with 59.

Lipscomb forced 28 Oglethorpe turnovers in the victory, tying the third-most in a game.

The Bisons scored 113 points and scored triple digits in a game for the second time this season (Johnson on Nov. 7). Since the 1999-2000 season, the 113 points is second-most in program history, missing the record of 123 set twice in 2007-08 and 2000-01 seasons.

61 of the team's 113 points came in the first half, marking the third time since 2009-10 that the Bisons have scored 60 or more in a game, missing the school record by two.

Knocking down 43-of-77 from the field for 55.8%, the percentage is the fifth-best in a game.

On the other side of the ball, the Bisons held the Stormy Petrels to 38 points, marking the sixth-lowest in a game, and the 14 field goals OU converted is the third-lowest.

Lipscomb's 23 dimes on the team's 43 field goals was the fourth-most in school history.

44 of the team's 77 field goal attempts were from beyond the arc, which was the second-most in a game.

The Bisons set two school records on Wednesday:
  • 43 field goals made, previous 38 vs. Johnson (Nov. 7)
  • 19 steals, surpassed 17 vs. Presbyterian (Nov. 22, 2019)
  • 37 points in the second quarter, exceeding Johnson's 36 on Nov. 7, 2024 and North Florida (Feb. 22, 2020)
Individually, Taylor Bowen's 11 points and rebounds each saw her record her second double-double.

UP NEXT
