Women’s Tennis Claims Historic Victory Over Blue Raiders


MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis continued their impressive start to the season on Saturday as they battled with the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. The Bisons fought hard and emerged with a 4-3 win, claiming their fifth consecutive win of the season and their first win in program history over the Blue Raiders.
 
The duo of Sasha Dobranos and Rut Galindo opened the scoring in doubles play, claiming a 6-1 win on court two over their MTSU foes to give the Bisons a head start towards the doubles point. The Blue Raiders struck back with a 6-3 win on court three over Anja Trbeznik and Sonia Pieczynska.
 
Reigning ASUN Player of the Week Sofiia Paladi and partner Mariya Dolzhenko battled hard with their opponents on court one and the duo claimed a 7-6 (7-1) win to secure the doubles point for the Bisons.
 
The tense battle carried over into singles play as the Blue Raiders evened the score with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Trbeznik on court five. Paladi claimed a straight-set win of her own at the No. 2 spot (6-4, 6-2) to give the Bisons back the lead in the match.
 
Dobranos delivered a go-ahead point with her 7-5, 6-1 win at the top spot, but MTSU shortly cut that lead back to one and then evened the score with their 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Pieczynska on court six and 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 defeat of Dolzhenko on court four.
 
As the match's fate hung in the balance, Galindo battled fiercely with her Blue Raider opponent on court three. The three-set matchup saw each set awarded to the winner with seven games each and Galindo fought for eight match point opportunities to eventually claim her 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 win and cement Lipscomb's first win over Middle Tennessee in Lipscomb Women's Tennis program history.

The Bisons will return to action Sunday, February 11th when they welcome the Chattanooga Mocs to the Ensworth High School Tennis Center for a matchup beginning at 1:00pm CT.
